Yesterday I discovered a new use for plastic grocery bags. Instead of making them into strips and turning them into yarn, you can cut them up and make them into plastic fabric using an iron. I found a really nice tutorial on Etsy Labs that gives step by step directions and also a video on how to do it.
People are using the fused plastic to make awesome totes, baby bibs and cute little change purses. I tried making a wallet for Jonathan but the plastic ended up a little on the warped side (probably because I kept handling and bending it without letting it cool down more first). I’ll probably post a pic of it later, so people can see my first attempt (well second, if you include my first card sized piece of fused plastic) at making fused plastic.
